The Capon Bridge Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was established in 1871 with services held in a local school on the Will Hutchinson property. The present-day church was built in 1884 on land donated by Mr. William Smith. The donated church property was large enough for a parsonage, which was built in 1891. The “new” parsonage was built in 1978.

Throughout the years, many improvements and additions have been made: Sunday School rooms, carpeting to cover wood floors, stained glass windows, upholstered pews, replacement of steeple cross, balcony renovation, rebuilding of steeple interior, exterior signs, handicap access sidewalks, entrance and restroom, entry room conversion, landscaping, ceiling fans, central air conditioning and heating, upstairs kitchen and serving area. The purchase of the nearby “red roof” house and land provided additional parking, storage, and a scout meeting place. The house was eventually torn down to provide more parking.

After merging with the United Brethren Church in 1968, the church became the Capon Bridge United Methodist Church.

Our church does not rest on its past history but is very active today.

Many ladies of our church belong to the charge United Women in Faith, who meet on the second Thursday of each month.  This group manages the local clothes closet and provides support for local, state, national, and global missions.

Capon Bridge United Methodist Church joins in a unique coming together with other community churches and organizations to take part in Vacation Bible School, Thanksgiving and Easter Sunrise Services, free community dinners on third Thursdays, serving lunch to local seniors on second Thursdays at the Capon Bridge old middle school, and packing and delivering bags of food to students at Capon Bridge Elementary School and Capon Bridge Middle School for the Backpack Ministry.

We invite anyone to join us “to live by God’s faith, to be known by God’s love, and to be the voice of God’s hope.”

God’s blessing to you!
