In the late 1890's Loom was a thriving little community, with many local homesteads nearby.

Several residents saw the need for a church; as worshipers, they had to travel to Capon Bridge or Augusta, which required several hours to make the trip. The Lupton family donated the land for the church.

The deed was conveyed to Wm. Wolford, James W. McCauley, Sydnor G. McDonald, AC Lovett, and J. N. Ward as trustees of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South of the Capon Bridge Circuit, and their successors in office on January 6, 1898, by deed signed by George A. Lupton.

The Church was erected by the local residents, some of whom were not experienced carpenters. A few years later, the McCauley family donated the land for the cemetery. Many changes and improvements to the Church have been made in the 100+ years since.

In the 1960s, a basement was dug out, primarily to install a kerosene furnace to eliminate the 2 wood stoves upstairs. Our basement has served multiple purposes, including Sunday School and Head Start Class for a few years. In recent years, major upgrades and cosmetic updates have been completed to make it an attractive and inviting place to hold our Sunday Coffee hours, combined Charge activities, pancake dinners, yard sales, bake sales, chicken barbecues, Christmas dinners, etc.

In 2016, we undertook a project to replace the roof and were amazed and appreciative of the incredible response from the local community to bring this to fruition.

In 2020, during the Covid shutdown, the mantel and pulpit were dismantled and refinished to bring the wood back to the original finish, and a wall behind the pulpit was removed to reveal original wood and 2 windows behind it. As in 1898 and in years since, our congregation has come together to combine their skills to make many of these improvements happen.

We enjoy fellowship not only on Sundays but also through our activities that involve the community. You will find many in our congregation volunteering at a local food pantry, monthly community dinners, and assisting with other community organizations and projects. Several ladies in our congregation are involved in the Capon Bridge Women of Faith Organization and their ministries.

Central is, and always has been, a very welcoming church, and we welcome you!
